Google Ads suspension
types explained

Every common suspension reason Google issues — what it actually means, how severe it is, and what recovery requires. This is the playbook we work from.

Circumventing Systems

Severe

Triggered when Google detects attempts to bypass its review systems — cloaking, redirect chains, repeat account creation after suspension, or hidden landing page content. Almost always permanent without expert intervention.

Misrepresentation

Severe

Covers deceptive claims, hidden fees, false urgency, fake reviews, or implying affiliations that don't exist (especially government bodies). Requires landing page rewrites and clear disclaimer placement.

Suspicious Payment Activity

High

Flagged when Google's risk systems detect unusual billing patterns — new card on a new account, mismatched billing geography, or chargeback history. Often resolved by verifying business identity and billing source.

Unacceptable Business Practices

Severe

Broad category covering anything Google judges as harmful to users — predatory lending terms, get-rich-quick schemes, certain affiliate models, or aggressive lead-gen funnels. Recovery requires structural changes to the offer.

Unapproved Substances

Severe

CBD, certain supplements, prescription-adjacent products, and nicotine items frequently fall here. Recovery hinges on certification, geo-targeting, ingredient framing, and landing page compliance.

Dangerous Products or Services

Severe

Covers weapons, recreational drugs, tobacco-style products, and similar categories. Even compliant brands in adjacent niches (vape, nicotine pouches) get caught here.

Restricted Gambling Content

High

Requires advertiser certification per country, licensed operator status, and strict geo-targeting. A single ungated geo can trigger account-wide suspension.

Adult Content / Sexual Content

High

Sex toys and intimate wellness brands. Recovery requires audience controls, creative review, and landing page structure that satisfies Google's adult policy framework.

Trademark Infringement

Medium

Often filed by competitors or rights holders. Resolved by removing flagged terms or supplying authorization documentation.

Billing Suspension

Low

Usually a payment failure, expired card, or unpaid balance. Easy to clear once billing is reconciled — but can mask a deeper compliance flag.

Repeat Policy Violations

Severe

Account-level suspension after multiple ad-level disapprovals. Requires a top-down compliance audit, not just appeal language.
